Belgrave

The site at Belgrave is an unusual one being almost triangular shape and having a crossfall across the site of some 9m falling away from the road. The site also interfaces with the Puffing Billy railway on the lower side of the site and is also the first/last commercial site as you enter and/or leave Belgrave

The design response was to work with the fall of the land creating an opportunity for open deck carparks set below road level but set above ground to the lower side this interface was designed as hanging gardens that cascade down to the railway level. Having an open landscaped interface has caused the building bulk to disappear. Towards the road a pallet of natural looking materials has been selected, a pallet of greys and browns sitting subtly in the foreground of the natural treelined background
